Brooklyn Children's Museum

This weekend we finally made it to the museum.  The weather was quite undesirable as it usually is most of Spring, cold and rainy.  I think Spring is Ava's favorite season, she loves using her umbrella and breaks it out every chance she gets.  This museum is so much fun for kids and very hands-on.  If you have kids, live in NYC or plan on visiting, this is a must.  Our three-year old is still talking about her experience.  Here's a play-by-play.

Avita is a lover of water, she has to touch it, jump in it and splash it whenever possible.

The very cool cork sand box.  Her shoes were filled with this stuff.

The sing-along show that frightened Aiden so much I had to remove him and calm him down.

Happy boy - away from the crazy musicians.

She is still talking about the the water exibit and says, "I sure love the water at the museum, momma."

My boys.

The drums is the other thing she mentions almost everyday!!

They have all these great areas that you stop and play in for a while.

Is this not the cutest thing ever!!  A grocery store for kids.  They have all these local Brooklyn shops set up especially for kids.  It's all hands-on so you never say, "stop touching that!"  LOVE!

Our veggie lover.

She couldn't even lift this, just like Mommy when she shops.

The five finger discount apple.  He didn't want to give it up.

On the Vespa in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn after a slice.

Brooklyn Detour

This past Saturday I had planned to take the kids to the Brooklyn Children's Museum, because over the years, even before we had tiny tots, I've heard great things about it.  They day started out cloudy and chilly so I thought, what a perfect day to spend at a museum, until we stepped outside...it was gorgeous out!!  Cherry blossoms were in bloom, it was in the low 60's and not a cloud in the sky.  So we hopped in the car, Mimi in tow and drove to Park Slope for a bite with intention to go to Prospect Park for the day.  Well, here's where things get a little crazy as they do when you are with children.  We had a great meal at a latin bistro and then proceeded to Ozzie's (my fav coffee shop in the Slope) -- somewhere in between, Ava had a tantrum, Mimi's back went out and Aiden decided he didn't want to be in a stroller anymore.

Calgon take me away!!!

So needless to say, we never got to the park on this beautiful Spring day!! I fed the kids a cupcake on a stoop because there was no way I was staying in a coffee shop with 2 screaming kids. Mimi could barely walk so she crawled back to the car, I kid, we walked slowly. Overall, I think I handled it pretty well. When you have kids, things can change on a dime and you just have to go with the flow. Had I been by myself this post would have included the phrase, "burst into tears" and I wouldn't be talking about my kids. Ahhh, life with kids, nothing less then adventurous.

The Cookies Are Ready!!!

On Friday night, our neighbor, Ms. Magda invited Ava and a few of her friends over from our building to dinner and dessert. Her grandson, Jack comes to visit every other weekend and Ava always loves to fight hang with Jack. Jack just had a little sister so he's been spending time with Grandma on the weekends. We had a great dinner, Ms. Magda is a great cook and then the kids made oatmeal cookies.

Ava and Jack are around the same age, Jack's a little younger and when these two get in a room sparks fly. I don't recognize the child she becomes around him, she doesn't share and there is always an argument that ensues between them. They fought over a cookie timer -- everytime it went "ding" the kids would scream, "the cookies are ready!!"  When the cookies were finally ready everyone enjoyed and they were delicious.  We look forward to Jack's next visit to The Heights.

March Musings...a little late

So it seems I had to buy space to keep adding pictures to my blog, otherwise I would lose them, as if!! I'm learning that nothing is free these days. These days we find ourselves being quite entertained by our ever so silly kiddos. This is where I found Ava the other day.

It takes about 10 pictures to catch Avita with her eyes open, here is what most pics on our camera look like.

She put on her retro glasses and grabbed a purse and told me she was ready for the supermarket.

Since she was exhausted from entertaining all morning long, she took a nap and her little bro was there to wake her up.  Aiden loves waking her up.

They really do get along well...I hope it lasts!

We always stop for coffee at a local coffee shop before church, here's Ava waiting for her cup of Joe.

Here's her cup of 'JOE' - we don't give our kids coffee, come on!

Running into her girlfriends from the nabe makes for a great day.
